Road Trips in France – Gorges Du Verdon
The Gorges du Verdon, France
If you’re looking for road trips in France, this is not to be missed. Located in one of the most beautiful parts of France, the Gorges du Verdon is one of the must-see natural wonders of central Provence. While there is no road up the gorge, there is the corniche route around the outskirts. For those of you who aren’t keen on getting out of your vehicle and exploring on foot – or boat in this instance – then maybe this isn’t for you. However, if you like adventure, and fancy seeing one of the most breathtaking, sensual sights in Europe, then drive up to this gorge, park up and get exploring.
The Gorges can be accessed from the Manosque Exit (exit 18) of the A51 motorway.
The sights you see, are spectacular. It is the work of mother nature, stretching back millions of years. The river has carved valleys into the limestone, with the Verdon being the longest and deepest.
The Gorges du Verdon attract visitors for a number of reasons. Some enjoy the drive across the rim of the clifftops. Then you have your hikers, for all the trails available around the gorges. The gorges also attract vultures, eagles and other birds of prey, which again, brings in flocks of visitors to admire. There is nothing saying you can’t do all three.
Check out the Sentier Martell, a hiking path between Point Sublime and Chalet Maline. The beaches of St Maxime are also beautiful, and it definitely makes sense to visit whiilst you’re there.
